GT Life with 3rd Grade
Love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort and KEEP ON LEARNING!-Carol Dweck
Today was an outstanding day with 3rd grade! We began class with a math talk instigated by Llanden! He was excited to share what he had learned about division. Several other students demonstrated what they knew about division and different types of models. Everyone wanted to know more about division – I promised a division game for our next class.
Students were challenged to design a tower that would hold at least 25 pennies. The only materials allowed were – 1 yard of tape, 1 yard of string, 10 straws, and one small cup with two holes cut in the sides. They could tape their structure to the floor, table, or a clipboard only.
We were so excited to finally have some Tinker Time with broken items and tools! We realized many things. It is hard to get speakers apart. Circuit boards break easily. We added goggles later than we should have! Magnets are included in many items. Wires cut easily with scissors.
